You can easily use croutons for stuffing to make a delicious side dish for Thanksgiving, or really any time of year! I turn leftover bread into air fryer croutons, and then turn those croutons into a simple five-ingredient stuffing.
This simple crouton-based stuffing has been a hit at multiple Thanksgiving potluck dinners with my family and friends. I serve it with turkey, Thanksgiving slaw, mashed potatoes, gravy, and Thanksgiving punch.
5-Ingredient Stuffing
Here’s the simple recipe for making stuffing out of croutons.
Ingredients
- 1 stick of butter (I use salted)
- 3 cups of diced celery
- 4 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons Onion soup mix (I use Lipton)
- 18 cups of croutons
Instructions
Using a large-sized pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the celery and simmer until tender, stirring occasionally (about 5 minutes). Stir in the broth and soup mix and bring to a boil over high heat. Remove from the heat, add the croutons, and toss until all the croutons are evenly moistened.
Cover the stuffing with a lid or aluminum foil for about 5 minutes, and then serve warm.
If you prefer, you can stuff the stuffing into the turkey cavity and bake the turkey as you normally would. When the turkey is done cooking, remove the stuffing and serve it with the sliced turkey.
